This
picture shows how close the surfaced area gets to the injector hole. You should
be right to the flat machined around the injector threaded area. Because of
casting differences some times the bottom edge sealing area will not be totally
machined flat. If the machined area covers over half the diameter of the bottom
bolts that will be sufficient for a good seal.
This step is only required on 2nd Gen heads using the old style 23 bolt flange manifold NEW BOLT PATTERN DOES NOT REQUIRE THIS STEP................................ When
machining the 24 valve head at the 2nd &3rd upper front bolt holes there
will not be enough material to support bolt threads. We send a small plate that
can be installed behind this area to bolt to or you can leave these holes un-drilled.
The head must be machined flat inside the valve cover area to install the plate.
This is a 24 valve head with the
plate installed. We supply the counter sunk head bolt and plate with the manifolds.
This repair is not necessary on common rail cylinder heads.
