Set the head on the exhaust side which will allow you to machine a parallel
surface for the intake manifold to set. This will work with 12 valve
or 24 valve and common rail heads. |

Measure the flange side of the manifold and add .060 to .100 to this dimension. Use this dimension to mark the cylinder head for machining, mark from the head surface up the side of the head. |

Machine this area down until you have a good flat surface to mount the manifold to. You will machine a step into the head on the intake side. Use caution and be aware of head thickness in the area you are machining. Do not machine into the valve cover area. |

Set the manifold on the machined area of the head and align the manifold. Use a transfer punch and mark a couple of holes. Drill and tap these holes and bolt the manifold down and mark the rest of the holes. |

Using the punch marks drill the head only as deep as needed (usually .750 deep) tap for the bolts included with your manifold. |
![]() |
Tap these holes (usually 5/16X18 thread) always check the bolts supplied with the manifold.
